This Locarnese town having an essentially residential character is situated on Lake Verbano and is rich in historical, cultural and social traditions with origins dating back to Roman and pre–Roman times. Today, it presents itself as a prized tourist resort, owing to the variety of impressive surroundings on offer to the visitor and to the complete range of services it is able to offer. At Rivapiana, on the bank overlooking the lake, there is a church dedicated to San Quirico with a bell tower in the Roman style (15th century). If, instead, one climbs along the paths towards the Cardada mountain, one comes across many places offering unique vistas of the banks of Lake Maggiore. As well as having two public harbours and a sports and recreation centre in Mappo, Minusio has turned particular attention to an original museum and cultural centre promoting a rich and varied programme of exhibitions, concerts, conferences, meetings, theatrical spectacles and shows.
